Chief Marketing and Business Development Officer
Brian Avenius is the Chief Marketing & Business Development Officer for NYSCI. He leads the teams that focus on integrated marketing, PR and brand management, audience and business development, visitor experience, public programming and events.
Prior to his role at NYSCI, Brian led efforts to reverse a 10-year attendance and membership trend at the Bronx Zoo, delivering attendance and revenue growth, improving critical brand health measures, and launching the first phase of a multi-year restoration at the New York Aquarium. Earlier in his career, at agencies like TBWA Worldwide and Hal Riney & Partners, he contributed to world-class brand development and advertising for Intel, General Motors, Pernod Ricard and Sprint before applying that expertise to mission-driven startups, turnarounds and nonprofit organizations as a marketing leader.
Brian has helped successfully launch and scale entirely new brands, transformed two 120-year-old brands, launched industry-first innovations, disrupted entire categories, and set all-time industry-leading growth records while contributing to sustainable revenue growth.
